The rapid development of modern medicine, especially in the
field of organ transplants on people, who only a few years ago had a slim
chance of survival, means that the number of people benefiting from them,
has increased considerably.
Thanks to this, transplant patients can recover a quality of life that they
had almost lost, at the same time giving them back "the wish to live"
and readjust to their family, social and working lives with a few limitations
as possible.
The support, in this process, of the different public and private
entities has been fundamental and has decisively enabled transplant patients
to go back to all walks life and their self-esteem (great diminished as a
result of serious illness has increased considerebly)
Thus achieving a full integration into society, a goal which all modern societies
aspire to.
As well as the above mentioned total integration, organ transplant
patients (heart, kidney, liver, lungs,...) must do their utmost to care for,
and preseve, their health in order to achieve:
- Their own recuperation
- The gratitude and "giving back" to society for the scientific
and economic effort which this process involves.
From this, it can be deduced that the rehabilitation programmes,
both physical and psychological, play a fundamental and vital role in ensuring
that the process is totally siccessful.
The doctors specialising in the recuperation of Transplant patients can vouch
for this, making every effort to achieve this goal.
AECAT (Assossiació Esportiva Catalunya de Trasplantats) a non-profit making private sports assossiation, has been set up as a legal body for the purpose of promoting and developing the ongoing practice of physical and sports activities by transplant patients. This assossiation shall be made up of people who have had an organ transplant, as well as all those who, because of their pathology, and in the opinion of medical teams, need the same, or similar, programme regardless of age or physical condition, as the programmes will be prepared on an individual basis.
To this end, AECAT, will do their utmost, in an altruistic and positive way, without excluding all those complementary activities that may contribute towards achieving our assossiation's goals such as: encounters, chats, excursions, attendance at, and participation in, sports events.
Last, but not least, AECAT takes upon itself the role of participating and organising, at the highest possible level, specific competitions for transplantet sports people, thus trying to obtain the best results in national and international competitions. Without a doubt, this will not only contribute towards encouraging a spirit of excelling among our members, but also towards promoting their high level of training, as well as the organisation governing it.
It is an ambitious plan, which we believe is possible and to which we will make every effort, every step of the way, and which will be coordinated by medical teams and professionals, who will continuously supervise by the work carried out.
The organisation of our assossiation shall be governed by the statutes passed in its constitution.
Our motto which will be the message that we will transmit and which our associates
will transmit, is:
"Your life is not just yours: make the most of it!"
